I have been using the free version of teamviewer to remote into a few PC’s/servers from home to fix some issues and requests. Lately I have been getting kicked off after about 45 seconds. I also use tight VNC but only when connected to my network. I am looking for a simple solution for me to remote into my network from either a laptop or mobile device so that I can fix issues when they arise and I am outside of my office. I looked into the commercial version of Teamviewer since I have had really good luck with that application. I noticed that Logmein is no longer offering a free service. I just wanted to get some thoughts on what others are using to offer remote support

VNC and VPN would do the trick but this question comes up quite a bit so (if you’ve got the time) you can get a massive hit of opinion in some other threads also:

We use LogMeIn. We don’t like how they act as a company but the product is great.

We have used LogMeIn Central for a few years now, very happy with the product.

Allow me to scold you though for using the free version of Teamviewer for commercial purposes, that’s against the TOS.

RDP / VNC + vpn for the server.

And teamviewer or webex for the remote assistance to user.

Probably going to try lync in one year or 2. Depend on when our main office will have their system set up.

We use Teamviewer commercial, no complaints here.

Personally, I love LogMeIn Rescue. You can setup unattended access which will always be available so long as the computer can reach the internet. However, I primarily just use an RDS gateway server. That will let you connect to anything on your internal network via RDP without a VPN. It’s also an encrypted connection and stuff. If you have a terminal server (aka RDSH) running Server 2008 R2 or newer, that’s an awesome free option that’s pretty easy to setup.

Is there any need for logmein pro along with the logmein central?

For my agency we have over 400 clients to manage so LogMeIn Central helped me to organize the systems and I just use the LogMeIn free edition (still supported for Central clients) for all clients. We also allow end users to work from home and Central allows me to setup access for them. If you don’t have that many to manage then you could get away with the Pro version.

Elijah, if you pay for LMI Central then you do not need to pay for Pro, Free is still available. We have about 100 systems and only 1 seat of Pro (for local printing reasons).

We use LogMeIn Central and their new Hamachi VPN functionality. It’s fantastic.

TeamViewer is only free for PERSONAL use. Our company has licenses for five channels and it works flawlessly. We support customers all over the country with no issues.

Remote Utilities works well for me.

Like many others I refuse to associate with LogMeIn on principle due to their disgusting method of changing their “Terms” without notice to their free and paying clients and their awful support. Product is good, pity about the company and management!
